Retro City Rampage preview: A Hodgepodge of Homages
Provided by: joystiq.com52010-09-04 09:00:00gaming / joystiq.com /
There are all of those inside jokes, those gaming and pop culture references that we slip into conversation now and again, eliciting a chuckle from those "in the know." Now imagine you had enough knowledge to make a game and decided, "Hey, what the heck? I'll go ahead and put in a nod toward this classic in my game." That's kinda what Brian Provinciano did.

He came up with Retro City Rampage, a self-professed "open world action parody" that started out as Grand Theftendo, an attempt to create Grand Theft Auto 3 on the NES. It kinda snowballed from there and eventually ended up being Retro City Rampage, a retro sandbox game with plenty of moxie.

News: Capcom aiming to avoid future controversy
Provided by: gamesindustry.biz62010-08-25 08:29:00gaming / gamesindustry.biz /

Capcom has revealed that it has taken on board the criticism leveled at it over the content of action horror game Resident Evil 5, released last year.

The title was rapped by some critics for what they considered to be a racist slant, based on the African village setting - meaning that the zombies were all black-skinned.

At the time the publisher denied the accusations and seemingly took no action to change its approach, but in an interview with Gamasutra it transpires that certain steps have been taken to try to prevent such situations from repeating themselves.

Article: The Case for PS Move
Provided by: eurogamer.net142010-09-04 08:30:00gaming / eurogamer.net /

And how Sony could have owned motion control six years ago.

The location: Stanford University. Sony's R&D mastermind Dr Richard Marks is once again showcasing motion control technology with a variety of ingenious technical demos very much along the lines of those recently seen by Digital Foundry. The difference this time is that the date is January 21, 2004 and the host console for the impressive tech is... PlayStation 2.

Marks has been waiting a long time to bring depth-sensitive "3D" motion control to the mass market. Even longer than you might think. His original camera-driven demos for the PS2 have been carbon-dated to before the turn of the century, with his original swords-and-sorcery style demo actually receiving a public outing at the summer ECTS Show at the Islington Design Centre in 2000.

There's even coverage of his work in the launch issue of Future Publishing's Official PlayStation 2 Magazine. Rare's Nick Burton recently talked about their prototype Kinect demo called "seagull" where you flapped your arms and flew around the environment. In that self-same issue of the Official PS2 Mag, you can see pictures of a very similar demo put together by Marks' team using the prototype camera that would one day become EyeToy.
